The entertainment industry goes beyond Hollywood, beyond acting and singing. In the 21st century, even the subsections of the industry like music and film production have created a dynamic job market behind the scenes and on the big screen.
If you use the film industry as an example, there are thousands of people working on film sets in makeup and hair, in the sound and audio, on the camera and visual effects, as well as assistants and runners. The same can be said for television productions and music videos.
With more entertainment available than ever, new jobs have been created in these industries on larger scales that don’t involve Hollywood.
The video game sector in the US employed about 350,000 people this year. Even as the video games industry continues to boom, so does the casino industry, which employed a similar amount of people, over 300,000 people in 2022.
While these jobs have been created because the US gambling market continues to be boosted, jobs are created because of a higher demand. The online presence of businesses has become important to their marketing strategies, so more jobs in social media and PR teams have been advertised in casinos.
Some destinations have become tourist hotspots for entertainment and gambling, so more staff in casino games have been hired to cope with increasing visitor numbers. In particular, more staff are now working in live casino games because dealers are necessary for the structure and fairness of live games.
A popular live dealer casino game where more jobs have been created is blackjack. Dealers are necessary in blackjack because they deal cards to players, oversee the game, and collect and payout bets. Blackjack dealers also play their hand once all the other players have played theirs. Therefore, blackjack dealers are essential to the integrity of the game.
These jobs have not just been created in physical casinos but in land casinos too, with the creation of online casino platforms. Online casinos and new technology have created a job market for live dealers through real-time video streams where dealers act like hosts and interact with players as if they were seeing them in person. Those who play a round of blackjack online will interact with dealers in real time, where a dealer will deal their cards, take their bets and do all of their normal duties remotely.
Some of the best jobs in entertainment are now remote ones according to some because they offer a great work-life balance. But which do we think are the best jobs in the entertainment industry right now?
1. DJ
DJs are cool no matter what they do. They travel all over the world, make a different mix for every audience and play a different set at each show. Arguably it’s better than being a singer because you don’t have to do the same choreographed set each time like you do on tour. The best DJs in the world also have the opportunity to remix classic songs and give them a modern twist, David Guetta is the master of mixes who is the best at that!
2. Director
The director is the big cheese as they oversee everything in production and bring a vision and their interpretation of the story to life. Directors do get paid a lot, and the successful ones in the industry can make millions per film depending on the film’s revenue at the Box Office.
But in entertainment, it is creating something that people resonate with. Directors choose the direction of a project and make all the big decisions. Ultimately they have the final say on the locations, who is playing the parts and the overall storytelling. Directing something that is entertaining doesn’t even need to be something with a big budget from a studio, it can be as impressive as directing your indie film.
3. Talent Agents
Talent agents can be controversial, but the job is rewarding. What a talent agent does is represent someone, likely in the entertainment industry, assist them through career decisions and liaise with press and agencies to consider their clients for opportunities.
Talent agents are great because the job can offer good job security. If you find clients who like and value you they will keep you with them. If they do make it big in the industry you might even be in for a pay rise.
Talent agents also can be self-employed and manage multiple clients, making every day feel different.
4. Cinematographer
Cinematographers are responsible for the beautiful shots in films and digital projects. They pull together the visual look and feel of the project they are working on whilst considering the director’s opinion.
Cinematography is one of the greatest creative jobs out there because although the director is in charge of a project, a cinematographer is responsible for the lighting, camerawork, and colour and even has a say in scouting filming locations for potential projects.
Cinematography is an entertainment and travelling job because they create a creative product and do it while travelling. Some cinematographers work on multiple projects at once and have the chance to travel all over the world.
